In partnership with the Theatre Royal Dumfries and Peter Pan Moat Brae and supported by the Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival, Bunbury Banter Theatre Company is looking for young adults aged between 16–25 years, who are from or based in Dumfries and Galloway, and are interested in writing.
Over 12 months, the Young Playwrights programme will give writers an opportunity to develop their work within the theatrical medium and be encouraged and supported to experiment and develop their voice as playwrights.
The programme will involve regular workshops with some of the UK’s leading playwrights and theatre creatives, visits to see theatre productions, play readings, and access to resources, as well as mentoring with the company’s Artistic Director Ali Anderson-Dyer and the Bunbury Banter team.
Playwrights include May Sumbwanyambe, Nicola McCartney, Douglas Maxwell, Morna Young and Mariem Omari.
The participants will be taken on a journey towards creating their final piece, which is then developed with professional actors and dramaturgical support at the end of the year, before being rehearsed and semi-staged.
Deadline for submissions Monday 15 March, 5pm.
Feedback from a 2020 participant and playwright:
“If anyone is wanting to get experience in becoming a playwright, this programme is the best there is to offer. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it a thousand times over.” Thomas (2020 participant)
“It’s lovely to see the new generation of talent that’s out there in Dumfries and Galloway.” Catherine Grosvenor (Playwright)
